SplitPea helps you find the lowest total price for your grocery list across the stores in your
area. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. Our guiding rule: we
never accept payment to change a price comparison or which store we recommend.
What we collect
- Account information — your email and display name, if you create an account.
- Store & loyalty preferences — the stores you select and any loyalty/membership
identifiers you choose to save (e.g., a United loyalty number or H-E-B account) to personalize prices.
- Lists & baskets — the products you add and compare.
- Receipts you upload — the image and the line items we read from it (product,
quantity, price), used to verify your savings and improve accuracy. Uploading a receipt is optional.
- Usage activity — searches, products and aisles you view, items added, comparisons,
and barcode scans, tied to a random device identifier we store in your browser (
sp_anon).
This identifier is not a fingerprint and does not identify you by name.
- Technical data — basic session and device information needed to run the service.
We do not ask for or store payment card numbers, government IDs, or your WIC/SNAP
enrollment status. We display WIC eligibility of products from public program data; we do not
know or record whether you personally are a WIC or SNAP participant.
How we use it
- To run the price comparison and split your basket for the lowest total.
- To personalize prices to your selected stores and memberships.
- To verify savings from your receipts and improve the accuracy of our data.
- To operate, secure, debug, and improve the app.
- To produce aggregated and de-identified insights about grocery prices and
shopping trends. These insights do not identify you.
How we share it
- Service providers who host and operate the app on our behalf, under contract.
- Aggregated or de-identified data may be shared with retailers, brands, or data
partners — only in a form that does not identify you personally.
- Business transfers — if SplitPea is acquired or merges, information may be
transferred to the successor as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
- Legal reasons — where required by law or to protect rights and safety.
We do not sell your personal, identifiable information for advertising. Where any
data sharing could be considered a "sale" or "sharing" under state law, we will honor applicable
opt-out rights.
Cookies & local storage
We use a login session cookie and browser storage for the random device identifier and your
preferences. These are essential to the service. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
Your choices & rights
- Access, correct, or delete your account and data — email us (below).
- Shop anonymously — most of the app works without an account.
- Clear the device identifier by clearing your browser storage.
- Depending on your state, you may have additional rights (access, deletion, opt-out). We honor
applicable rights.
Data retention & security
We keep data for as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate business and legal
purposes, then delete or de-identify it. We use reasonable safeguards, though no method is perfectly
secure.
Children
SplitPea is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will post the new version here with an updated version date and, for
material changes, ask you to re-consent.
